SW1911PD 9mm Steel Gun

Model: SW1911PD, rebuilt in 9MM with compensator and Aimpoint Micro R-1

Used for:

Steel Challenge Open

As always with Steel Challenge, weight of the gun is huge a factor. Again, I started with a SW1911PD Scandium frame and rebuilt the top-end with a 9MM slide and barrel to save on recoil and cost. The slide has been lightenend for better function, as well as to reduce the overall weight.  I use the Aimpoint scope mount from Derek at MC Guns, it sits very low to the bore axis, along with leaving the ejection port almost completely uncovered during cycling. This helps since reliebility is everything at the top of game, once jam can take you from 1st to 10th place in a hurry. I use an STI Tru-Bor barrel from Brazos Custom with Bob’s comp milled into it, this barrel/comp combo is very effective and accurate, along with being the lightest set-up I’ve found that uses a steel comp.

  1. Are you still shooting lightwieght bullets with Titegroup?

    • Al,

When I built the new gun I actually got away from the super light bullets to make sure that the round has the length to run 100%. Single Stack mags cab be a little tougher to get running right than the STI mags and with a tight time table I wanted to make sure I wouldn’t have any problems. But after I shot it awhile, I like the way to gun shoots with the 115 gr bullets and have stuck with them since.

I also started using Vhit N320 instead of Titegroup. It’s way clean and real consistent.
